Baldwin's Premium Distilled Gin is entirely handcrafted by master distiller Filip Braeckman in the family-owned traditional grain distillery founded in 1918. Located in Oudenaarde, amidst the soft slopes of the Flemish Ardennes, Braeckman Distillery is renowned for its top quality grain genever and small batch spirits. As one of only four remaining traditional distilleries in Belgium that produce their own grain distillate, Braeckman relies on the 500 year long Flemish tradition of distilling genever.
Our master distiller charges the heavy duty Jacob Carl copper pot still with a mixture of the finest pure grain spirit and water from the distillery’s own bore hole, inserts the botanical basket filled with his well-balanced mix of 11 traditional gin botanicals and 3 selected Flemish botanicals, and then leaves it to macerate for 24 hours. The bore hole reaches down to a rich artesian water supply containing the unique Oudenaarde’s Brewing Water.
After the maceration has freed the botanicals’ essential oils and aromatic components, the slow and unrushed small batch distilling process starts, allowing the subtle aromas to enrich the alcohol vapours. Our master-distiller cuts off the heart from the heads and feints, relying completely on his fine nose, his feel for temperature control, and his unsurpassed knowledge of aromatic yield. After resting, nothing else but the locally sourced Oudenaarde’s Brewing Water is added to the fully aromatic and smooth heart.
With a strength of 46% ABV, Baldwin's Premium Distilled Gin is carefully bottled in numbered bottles, each of which carries a heavy duty steel cork top embossed with the cross of the Knights Templar.
